Krewe of Barkus

Hail Barkus! The Meeting of the Royal Couple
Mystic Krewe of Barkus 2002

Tugging on his leash, a clearly excited Jake, King Barkus X, could barely wait to lay a kiss on his diminutive queen, Puffer. Before long, Puffer, an SPCA adoptee who has blossomed into a star of the stage, was checking out Jake's crown jewels.

2000 Highlights
Participants in the 8th annual Mystic Krewe of Barkus parade offered many ingenious takes on the rich historical tapestry surrounding Joan of Arc.  One can only imagine how the warrior-cum-saint would have reacted to the St. Joan of Arc Catholic Obedience School--a passel of pooches dressed in plaid uniforms. Or the float with poodles who appeared to be roasting marshmallows over the flames of a burning Joan. Or the elegantly attired bulldog who rode atop an almost-life-size horse made of gold papier mâché.

Party Hounds on Parade
Participants in a Williams College reunion, assisted by a Hollywood costume designer, gear up for a royal role in the 8th annual Mystic Krewe of Barkus parade (theme: "Joan of Bark").

1999 Highlights

Goldweiner, James Bone and Octopuppy were among the preening pooches who masqueraded through the French Quarter in the 7th annual Mystic Krewe of Barkus parade (theme: "007: From Barkus With Love").
